Witnessed by Mountains and Seas: Transforming "Green" into "Gold" — The Ecological Report Card of Chinalco Group during the 14th Five-Year Plan period

In early winter, Kunming, at the foot of Pujishan Mountain, the Galsang flowers sway gently in the breeze. Groups of citizens stroll and take photos along winding paths, while children chase and play on the lawns. Who would have thought that this place, known by citizens as the "Internet-famous ecological slope," was once a barren hillside filled with copper smelting slag? Today, it is lush with vegetation, echoing with clear bird calls, and has become a "green living room" shared by the community.

Witnessed by mountains and seas — this is not only the transformation of the Pujishan slag field but also a vivid epitome of Chinalco Group's deep implementation of the concept that "clear waters and green mountains are invaluable assets" and its push for green and low-carbon transition since the beginning of the 14th Five-Year Plan. From aluminum plants along the Yellow River to mining areas in Guinea, from copper smelting bases in central cities to green power aluminum projects on the northwest plateau, a green revolution covering the entire industry chain and lifecycle is accelerating, leading the industry onto a path of "high-value" development.

Since the beginning of the 14th Five-Year Plan, Chinalco Group has deeply embedded green concepts into the entire value chain from mine exploitation to end products. Industrial layout optimization, production process innovation, energy structure transformation, creation of A-level environmental performance enterprises...a dual-chain integration action covering both "industry chain + green chain" has been fully launched.

On the southeast coast, Chinalco Ruimin used a "carbon footprint label" to open the door to the global high-end market. By collaborating with upstream suppliers for emission reduction, optimizing logistics networks, and extensively using green electricity, its product carbon emissions are far below the industry average. With this "green resume", Chinalco Ruimin successfully entered the supply chain system of internationally renowned enterprises.

On the northwest plateau, the 600 kA aluminum electrolysis project of Chinalco Qinghai Branch has been fully put into operation. This project installed 312 highly efficient energy-saving new electrolytic cells, consuming over 300 kWh less direct current per ton of aluminum than the industry average, reducing CO2 emissions by more than one million tons annually, and increasing the proportion of green electricity use in the enterprise to over 80%. Even more excitingly, the 1200 MW wind-solar power project in Inner Mongolia's Damao Banner has been connected to the grid, directly supplying green electricity to the plant—"producing aluminum with wind and solar" is no longer just a slogan but a tangible production method.

From "high energy consumption" to "low footprint", from "waste slag field" to "check-in spot", Chinalco Group's green chain is activating the efficiency of the entire operation—making every piece of metal lighter, greener, and more valuable.

Since the beginning of the 14th Five-Year Plan, Chinalco Group has proactively opened its doors to build a transparent, credible, and warm green narrative system: regularly publishing Carbon Reduction Reports and Social Responsibility Reports each year, disclosing key product carbon footprint data, and making public monitoring information for key emission outlets.

More crucially, Chinalco Group tells green stories with "humanity" and "life".

In Guinea, Chinalco focused not only on ore output but also built a 30-kilometer-long "ecological corridor" around the mining area. The team planted tree species suitable for the local climate, protected water source conservation areas, and prioritized hiring local residents to participate in green belt maintenance. This green belt not only alleviated the ecological disturbance caused by mineral development but also became a bright card showcasing Chinalco Group's commitment to being a "global corporate citizen".

Domestically, the "internet fame" of the Pujishan slag field can be considered a miraculous spread of "unintentional sowing". Initially aimed solely at ecological restoration, unexpected citizen selfies uploaded online caught media attention, and topics quickly went viral. Chinalco Group did not stop at merely attracting attention but deepened interaction accordingly, truly embedding green concepts into the public's heart. When green actions connect with livelihood improvement and community win-win situations, brand value naturally grows.

In 2025, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission released the Central Enterprise Brand Value Report, showing significant achievements in brand building work compared to the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period. Chinalco Group ranked 13th in the "2025 Central Enterprise Brand Strength" among mining and metal central enterprises, ranking first, and was selected as a "central enterprise product brand" for the first time, with a substantial increase in brand value.

Moreover, Chinalco Group is moving from being an "excellent practitioner" to an "industry leader". Facing bauxite residue, a "global challenge" for the aluminum industry worldwide, Chinalco Group has continuously tackled this issue in collaboration with universities and research institutes, successfully developing various utilization pathways such as building materials, road base materials, and soil conditioners. The comprehensive utilization level of bauxite residue is already at the forefront internationally. Chinalco Group also contributed to launching China's first non-ferrous metal EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) platform, promoting unified green standards, comparable data, and mutual recognition in the market within the entire industry.
