Chinalco expands new inland waterway channel to boost Yangtze River Economic Belt development

来源:      时间: 2025-03-17

Recently, Chinalco successfully transported its first batch of 169 metric tons of green aluminum products from Shuifu Port in Yunnan Province via an inland river container liner. After a three-day voyage northward, the shipment arrived at Huangqian Port in Chongqing. This marks another milestone for Chinalco in optimizing its transportation structure, expanding logistics channels, and enhancing transport efficiency.

Shuifu Port, known as the "First Port on the Yangtze River" and Yunnan's largest inland port, serves as the province's "Northern Gateway" to the Yangtze River region. Huangqian Port, located in Xipeng, Jiulongpo District, Chongqing, is a critical logistics hub in the upper Yangtze River area and a key link on the Chengyu Railway. The newly established Shuifu-Huangqian shipping route effectively links the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River, forming a vital logistics corridor that connects eastern and western regions while extending influence northward and southward. This route holds significant importance for promoting coordinated regional economic development.

In recent years, Chinalco has focused on building Yunnan's sub-regional international logistics base, continuously improving its transportation network. Leveraging the efficiency of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor, Chinalco has advanced multimodal transport solutions (road-rail-sea) for green aluminum products. The inaugural shipment from Shuifu to Huangqian Port integrates road, inland waterway, and combined road-water transport, further enhancing Chinalco's supply chain capabilities.

"The new inland waterway channel will serve as a crucial logistics link between Yunnan and Chongqing, injecting fresh vitality into the Yangtze River Economic Belt. Supported by the Yangtze's Golden Waterway, cargo transportation from Yunnan to Central and East China will become more efficient. Additionally, inland shipping offers advantages such as large capacity, low cost, and minimal environmental impact, enabling us to reduce costs and boost operational efficiency," said a senior manager from Chinalco.
